NEW DELHI _Amazon and Tata Motors have announced a major partnership. Specifically, they will deploy 3,000 electric trucks across Amazon’s transportation network in India. As a result, this marks the largest electric-truck deployment by any e-commerce company in the country. Furthermore, this initiative extends fleet electrification well beyond last-mile delivery into middle-mile logistics and national freight corridors.
The first batch of Tata electric trucks was officially flagged off in Delhi. Key dignitaries attended the event, including Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy, Hon’ble Union Minister of Heavy Industries & Steel; Mr. Abhinav Singh, Vice President of Operations for Amazon APAC, MEA, and Turkey; Mr. Kishore Lanka, Director of Operations for Amazon India; Mr. Sushant Naik from Tata Motors; and Mr. Rajesh Kaul, Vice President of Trucks at Tata Motors.

Scaling Electric Trucks Across Cities and Highways
The rollout begins in Delhi during the festive season. Consequently, it will help manage peak e-commerce and retail supply chain volumes. Amazon will deploy light- and medium-duty electric trucks from Tata Motors to streamline within-city freight movement.
In the next phase, the expansion will target major national highways. Therefore, the companies have set a bold ambition to electrify the 2,800-km Delhi–Bengaluru–Chennai corridor along NH48. As India’s longest freight corridor, it spans seven states. Moreover, this transition is supported by dedicated charging infrastructure hubs developed alongside Yahhvi, alongside Delhi’s 2026 EV Policy.
Leadership Perspectives
Highlighting the national vision, Shri H. D. Kumaraswamy stated, “India is accelerating towards electric mobility and the realisation of Viksit Bharat 2047. Through schemes like PM E-DRIVE, PLI Auto, and PLI ACC, the Government will continue to support this transition.”
Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, Transport & IT Minister of Delhi, added, “Decarbonising logistics is an important next step to reduce transport emissions. Therefore, this collaboration sets an exemplary precedent for sustainable urban logistics.”
Abhinav Singh from Amazon commented, “Electrifying our logistics network is vital to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. Because we already operate over 15,000 EVs across 500 cities, we are now setting a bold vision to scale electric trucking.”
Rajesh Kaul from Tata Motors noted, “Electric trucking is moving beyond the pilot stage. Consequently, with deep localisation driving affordability, zero-emission trucks are becoming practical business propositions for fleet operators.”
Advanced Engineering & Sustainability Goals
Built around an integrated e-axle, the Tata Ultra E.7 features CCS2 fast charging and regenerative braking. In addition, it includes a crash-tested cabin equipped with high-voltage safety systems designed to deliver lower operating costs and higher uptime.
Ultimately, this collaboration builds on Amazon’s broader sustainability roadmap. As a co-founder of The Climate Pledge, Amazon targets net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. Initiatives like the Laneshift program and the new SUPEREV digital platform continue to simplify commercial EV adoption across India.
